I am an experienced civil litigator having represented clients in North Carolina’s state and federal courts for over eighteen years. I focus my litigation practice on the areas of personal injury, employment law, and business litigation.  Here are just a few of the types of civil cases I handle:

  • Personal Injury Claims
  • Wrongful Death
  • Employment Discrimination
  • Catastrophic Injuries
  • Bicycle Accidents
  • Wrongful Discharge
  • Non-Competes or Restrictive Covenants
  • Race Discrimination
  • Gender Discrimination
  • Employment Retaliation
  • Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
  • Equal Pay Act
  • Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA)
  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
  • Dog Bites and Attacks
  • Workers’ Compensation
  • Automobile Accidents
  • Business Disputes
  • Breach of Contract
  • Unfair And Deceptive Trade Practices Claims
  • Negligent Misrepresentation
  • Fraud

I also do a fair amount of business transactional work. I review and draft various types of contracts, such as business contracts, landlord/tenant agreements, non-competition agreements (restrictive covenants), non-disclosure agreements, confidentiality agreements, severance agreements, and many others. I enjoy helping entrepreneurs form and start their businesses, while also counseling them on compliance with state and federal employment law. Because I have litigated cases in which poor legal drafting has led to hotly contested and costly litigation, I strongly believe my business clients greatly benefit from my litigation experience.

Overall, I am a litigator and trial lawyer at heart. From the moment I begin working on a client’s case, I work the case as if I will one day try that case to a jury. This means I am always prepared to fight for my client in the courtroom. However, I also constantly keep my client’s objective in mind. Therefore, even while I am preparing a case for trial, if my client’s objective is, for example, to settle the case, that is the objective I seek to achieve. With my client’s objective as my main goal coupled with my continuous and relentless preparation for trial, my clients receive outstanding legal representation.
